The country has become the change it’s wanted to see, already. I can’t embrace the circular logic of optimism in the face of the reality we’re walking directly into. We live in one of the most bigoted parts of the country. Best not to engage.
Just the title of the poem is enough. The hardest part of our journey is that so many do not survive the struggle to see the victory. But we can struggle anyway and take satisfaction in our contribution.
