One of the best ideas out there for venting about Republicans’ hostile takeover of the United States is www.5calls.org.
5 Calls is a simple service, and if you download the free app, it’s even easier. You enter your location, and it brings up a list of issues. Clicking on an issue provides you brief, factual information for your call to your member of Congress or US Senator. Click on the official you want to call, and a script appears, which you can just read or create your own variation.
It’s a movement.
Heather Cox Richardson reported the other day that aggrieved callers are not alone. Congressional offices that average 40 calls a minute are now receiving 1,600 calls a minute. So the likelihood of talking with a real person is slim, but in most cases, you can leave a voice mail.
That’s what I did when I made my first call to Sen. John Fetterman. I asked him to stop his policy of appeasement toward Trump. I reminded him that appeasement did not stop World War II, but it did cost 6 million Jews, Romany (gypsies), and others their lives. I also criticized his support for Attorney General Pam Bondi, who tried to nullify our votes in 2020, and I asked him not to support Kash Patel, Robert Kennedy Jr., and other unqualified nominees who are trying to destroy democracy.
Today, I called Sen. David McCormick and left a voice mail asking him to oppose RFK, Jr., whose nomination is reported to be up for a vote tomorrow.
It couldn’t have been easier or faster. Try it. I’m going to treat it like a daily vitamin.
Miscellaneous Thoughts
Elon Musk and his Republican wrecking crew are breaking the law in plain sight every day. Why is no one arresting him and them?

Republicans’ concern for the 2 million homeless people in Gaza is touching, isn’t it? The “America First” team wants to “buy” Gaza, displace the Palestinians, and develop it at the same time they cut programs to help and house America’s homeless. They say the displaced will not be allowed to return. How many of those forcibly displaced Palestinians are they willing to resettle in America?

Republicans look in a mirror and say they’re looking through a window when they accuse innocent others of what they themselves are guilty of doing.

T-shirts I asked Democratic National Committee to sell in their merch store:
GOP: Garbage Of Politics
Republican DEI: Dictatorship. Extremism. Ignorance.
Republican DEI: Destroy. Erase. Invade.
Republican DEI: Deranged. Extreme. Insane.
Republican DEI: Daily Examples of Ignorance.
Republicans: Killing babies worldwide.
Republicans: Killing Democracy a specialty.
Republicans: It’s your fault now.
Republicans: Putin and Xi have a home for you.
Republicans: Giving the world to China.
Republicans: Payback is going to be a bitch.
Republicans: Hurt our friends. Help our enemies.

You and I think alike. My mental breakfast consists of Heather Cox Richardson and a few others for the same reason.
Because I labor over what I write, I find calling to be more efficient in terms of time. 5 Calls points out that emails must be read and sorted while faxes and surface mail also require more processing time. So especially when time is of the essence, like an imminent vote, calls can be most effetive.
Thanks for asking. Please let me know what you think.
The only one of these suggested slogans is: Republicans: It’s your fault now. The good things about this one are 1) it's open-ended, letting the readers fill in with whatever they feel unhappy about and 2) it's true. As you know, I lean toward the mild-mannered. This one would make a T-shirt that a lot of people could relate to.
